Sand & Multimedia Filtration

Physical filtration technology for suspended solids removal

It is based on the principle of retaining suspended solids by passing water through sand layers of specific sizes.

This technology has been developed by mimicking natural filtration processes for thousands of years. Modern sand filtration systems use sand layers of different granule sizes to achieve maximum efficiency. As water passes through the sand bed from top to bottom, particles and suspended solids are retained between sand grains.

Both physical and chemical filtration occur in this process. Multimedia filtration is the advanced version of this technology. It is a system where multiple filtration materials of different densities and granule sizes are used in layers. Typically anthracite, sand and garnet layers are used.

Each layer retains different sized particles, achieving higher efficiency and longer operating times. When the system capacity decreases or pressure drop increases, backwashing is performed with reverse water flow to clean accumulated contaminants. This automatic cleaning system ensures continuous and efficient operation.
